Indian Railways VRS: Railways have forced 139 officers to take VRS in the last 16 months. At the same time, 38 officers have been removed from their service.
Indian Railways VRS: To remove corruption in railways and increase productivity, Indian Railways is constantly taking tough decisions. In the last 16 months, every three days, one non-performer or corrupt officer has been fired by the Railways. Officials said that 139 officers were forced to take voluntary retirement (VRS) during this period. At the same time, 38 officers were removed from their service. According to sources, two senior grade officers were sacked on Wednesday. One of them was caught by the CBI in Hyderabad with a bribe of Rs 5 lakh and the other in Ranchi with a bribe of Rs 3 lakh.
An official said, “Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav is very clear about his message of ‘work or go out’. From July 2021, we have thrown 1 corrupt officer out of the railways every three days.”
Sit at home if you don’t work
According to Rule 56 (J) of the Personnel and Training Service Rules, a Government servant can be retrenched or dismissed after giving him a notice of at least three months or pay for an equal period. This step is part of the Central Government’s efforts to weed out non-working people. Ashwini Vaishnav, after taking charge as Railway Minister in July 2021, has repeatedly warned officials to “take VRS and sit at home” if they do not perform.
These people were forced to take VRS
The official said that those who have been forced to take VRS or have been sacked include officers of electrical and signalling, medical and civil services and employees of stores, traffic and mechanical departments. Under VRS, an employee is given salary equal to 2 months for every year of remaining service. But this facility is not available with compulsory retirement.
