It is the responsibility of the Indian Railways to run and deliver all the trains on time and if a train is late, the railways also return the ticket money to its passengers for this. You can claim full refund if the train is late
Those traveling with Indian Railways have got some special rights. In this, there is also the right of refund if the train is late. If the train is late, you can ask for the full money spent on the railway ticket. According to the rules of the railway, if the train is late by 3 hours or more, then you can cancel the ticket and recover the full amount. Now whether your ticket is confirmed, RAC or waiting. Earlier this right was only on the counter ticket. But, now the rule is applicable on online ticket booking as well.
How to get refund?
If you are late by 3 hours or more, you can cancel your counter ticket by visiting the ticket counter of the same station and get full refund. If the ticket is booked online then you have to fill the TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) form online. You will get half of the ticket money immediately after filling the TDR and the remaining half of the money is available after the completion of the train journey. Remember, if you are canceling your ticket due to any reason, then railway will charge cancellation charge on it.
