IRCTC Train Ticket Booking: Now you can travel in AC by taking sleeper ticket, know how

Indian Railways: Indian Railways provides such a special facility to the passengers. In which you can travel in AC coach on sleeper ticket. However, for this you will have to keep some things in mind while booking tickets. Let us know how you can travel in AC coach with sleeper ticket.

Indian Railways: If you travel by train then you should be aware of this scheme. There is a scheme called Auto Upgradation Scheme in Railways (Ministry of Railways) . In this, passengers are upgraded one class above the class in which they took the ticket. Meaning that if a passenger has taken a ticket in sleeper class, then he is upgraded to third AC for free. Whereas if third AC tickets are taken then they are upgraded to 2AC.

By the way, for your information, let us tell you that there are three types of coaches i.e. coaches for traveling in trains. Which includes general coach, sleeper coach and air conditioner coach. The biggest difference between the three types of coaches is that you can travel in general coach from normal ticket. Whereas for sleeper and AC you have to make reservation.

How to travel in AC with sleeper ticket

The facility of auto upgradation is provided by the Railways. However, passengers have to choose this option while booking tickets. If you choose the option of auto upgradation, then the ticket is booked in a class higher than the coach class in which you book the ticket. It simply means that if you book a ticket in sleeper coach, then in auto upgradation the same ticket will be upgraded to AC coach. The most special thing about this service is that Railways does not charge a single penny from the passengers for this. The benefit of this facility is available only when there are vacant seats in the upper coach.

Know when the auto upgradation scheme started

Indian Railways did an internal study for a long time and found out that there is a huge difference between demand and supply of trains. On one hand there is competition for seats in sleeper class and on the other hand seats are going vacant in AC class. Even in AC class, there is a lot of demand for berths in 3AC. But there is no such demand in 2AC and First AC. After this, the outline of Auto Upgradation Scheme was drawn. Due to which the tickets started being upgraded when the seats became vacant. It was started in the year 2006.
