Indian Railways: Indian Railways has banned traveling in sleeper and AC coaches on waiting tickets from May 1, 2025. Now passengers with waiting tickets will be able to travel only in general coaches. Violation of the rules will result in fine or transfer. This strictness has been implemented to ensure the convenience of confirmed ticket holders.

Indian Railways: There is a big news for the passengers traveling by train. That is, now you will not be able to travel in sleeper or AC coach of trains on waiting ticket. After booking a waiting ticket, you will have to travel in the general bogie of the train. Indian Railways has announced that from May 1, 2025, traveling in sleeper and AC coaches on waiting ticket will be completely banned.

Which rules will change from May 1

Passengers with waiting tickets will now be able to travel only in general coaches.
Keeping in mind the convenience and safety of confirmed ticket holders, the Railways is taking this strict action.
If a passenger is found travelling in sleeper or AC coach with a waiting ticket, the TTE can fine him or he will be sent to the general coach.

Why are the rules being made stricter?

According to Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Western Railway, passengers with waiting tickets often force their way into sleeper and AC coaches. This creates a situation of dispute over the seats of passengers with confirmed tickets. Due to overcrowding in the coach, passengers face difficulty in commuting. This change is necessary to ensure safety and convenience during the journey.

New rules also apply to online booking

If tickets booked from IRCTC are not confirmed, they are automatically cancelled.
Despite this, many people used to enter the coach by taking waiting tickets from the counter, now this will not be possible.

What precautions should be taken before travelling?

Before travelling, make sure that your ticket is confirmed.
If the ticket is in waiting list, then travel in general coach or change the travel plan.
Follow the new rules of Railways to avoid unnecessary fines and hassle.
