Counter Ticket Rules: Many lakhs of people travel by Indian trains every day. Most of these passengers buy tickets online from IRCTC website or other apps or websites. Still, today the number of people who go to the counter and get train tickets is very high. But do you know that train tickets taken at the counter can also be cancelled online. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said in Parliament on Friday that tickets purchased from the ticket counter can be canceled online through IRCTC website or inquiry number 139, but one will have to go to the railway reservation center to get the amount.
Railway Minister answered in Parliament
BJP MP Medha Vishram Kulkarni had asked whether there is a need to go to the station before the departure of the train to cancel the ticket. Vaishnav said in Rajya Sabha in a written reply to this question that the ticket will be cancelled at the reservation counter on handing over the waitlisted ticket taken from PRS counter (Railway Reservation Center) as per the time limit prescribed in Railway Passenger (Ticket Cancellation and Fare Refund) Rules 2015.
He said, “However, under normal circumstances, PRS counter tickets can also be cancelled online through IRCTC website or 139 within the time limit prescribed as per Railway Passenger (Ticket Cancellation and Fare Refund) Rules 2015 and refund amount can be taken by submitting the ticket at the original PRS counter of reservation counters.”
How to Cancel IRCTC Counter Tickets Online
- To cancel the counter ticket online, you will first have to go to the official website of IRCTC.
- Here you have to go to More Action and click on Counter Ticket Cancellation.
- After this a new page will open. Where you can cancel your ticket or change the boarding point.
- By choosing the ticket cancellation option, you will have to fill your PNR and security captcha.
- After which an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. After this your details will appear on the screen.
- After checking the details, click on the cancel ticket option. After this your refund amount will appear on your screen.
This work will have to be done for refund
The ticket taken from the counter can be cancelled online, but for this you should go to your nearest PRS counter to get a refund. Where you can get a refund by showing the ticket. However, if you want to get a refund, keep in mind that you have to deposit it at the PRS counter at least 4 hours before the scheduled time of the train. Along with this, waiting list or RAC tickets can be deposited at the counter 30 minutes before the departure of the train.
