No change has been made in the rule
Indian Railways on Wednesday clarified that there has been no change in the rules for booking tickets for children traveling by train. In some reports, it was claimed that ‘children between one to four years will now be charged adult fare’, after which the Railways has issued a clarification in this regard.
Children below 5 years will travel for free
In a circular issued by the Ministry of Railways dated March 6, 2020, it has been said that children below the age of five years will travel free of cost. However, in that case a separate berth or seat will not be provided for the child. The circular also said that if a passenger needs a separate seat or berth for his children below the age of five years, they will be charged adult fare.
There were news of changing rules in the media
Recently, it has been claimed in some media reports that Indian Railways has changed the rules regarding ticket booking for children below five years of age in the train. It has been said in the news that ‘Now children between the age of one to four years will have to take a ticket on Safal in the train.’
Railways termed such reports as misleading
Railway has said in the statement that these news and media reports are misleading. It is informed that Railways has not made any changes regarding booking of tickets for children traveling in the train.
The statement said that on demand of passengers, they have been given the option to buy tickets and book berths for their child below the age of five years. If they do not want a separate berth, then children can travel free of charge as before.
