In view of the increasing incidents of trains derailing in recent times, Indian Railways has taken a big decision. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced that all trains will be equipped with several cameras to monitor the tracks and surrounding areas. The move comes after several incidents in which attempts to derail trains are suspected. The move is aimed at improving passenger safety. According to the news of Financial Express, Vaishnav said that cameras will be installed in front, behind and on the side of the engine and guard coach, as well as on cattle guards and bogies.
Tender for installing cameras soon
The Railway Minister said that the tender for installing the camera will be issued within three months, which will include all trains. In addition to the cameras, a central data center will be set up to collect and review the footage from these devices.
Vaishnav described the recent derailment attempts as very serious and said that the railway administration is coordinating with state police chiefs to increase vigilance on railway tracks. Sources have been quoted as saying that the focus will also be on strengthening the intelligence network and raising awareness among people to prevent further derailment attempts.
Cameras will detect suspicious objects on tracks
According to the news, discussions are on to install AI-equipped CCTV cameras on engines. Ashwini Vaishnav said that Indian Railways plans to install 75 lakh AI-powered CCTV cameras in coaches and engines at a cost of about Rs 15,000 crore to enhance security.
These cameras will detect suspicious objects on the tracks and alert drivers to apply emergency brakes. Indian Railways is planning to equip 40,000 coaches, 14,000 engines and 6,000 EMUs with AI-powered CCTV cameras.
