Indigo Fare Cut, Mahakumbh 2025: Amid the crowd for Mahakumbh, airfares to Prayagraj are skyrocketing. In such a situation, the Ministry of Civil Aviation had asked the airlines to fix a reasonable fare. Now Indigo has made a big cut in the fares of Prayagraj flights.

Indigo Fare Cut: Lakhs of devotees are reaching the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj every day from the country and abroad. Due to this, the demand for air travel increased very rapidly, which has also led to a tremendous jump in fares. The fare from Delhi or Mumbai to Prayagraj increased so much that flights abroad became cheaper than it. In such a situation, on Wednesday, the Civil Aviation Ministry asked the airlines to fix a reasonable fare. After this, the country’s largest airline IndiGo has cut the fares of its flights to Prayagraj by 30-50 percent.

Earlier, Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that the fares of flights to Prayagraj have become very high and demanded the aviation regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to take steps in this direction. At the same time, Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu on Wednesday met airline representatives along with Secretary V Vulnam, DGCA DG Faiz Ahmed Kidwai and senior officials regarding flights to Prayagraj.

The ministry said in a post on the social media platform ‘X’ that the adequacy of air connectivity to Prayagraj from across the country was reviewed while maintaining reasonable fares during the Maha Kumbh festival. He said that regular coordination meetings have been held to give a seamless and comfortable travel experience to the devotees.

Airfare cut by up to 30-50 percent

Meanwhile, sources said that IndiGo has cut airfares by up to 30-50 percent for flights to Prayagraj. However, there was no comment from the airline. According to IndiGo’s website, the ticket price for January 31 is more than Rs 21,200 and the lowest price for February 12 is Rs 9,000. IndiGo operates flights to Prayagraj from Lucknow, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad. However, there was no immediate comment on the fares of flights to Prayagraj from Air India, Akasa Air and SpiceJet.

Flights to Prayagraj from 26 cities

The Civil Aviation Ministry had said on Monday that steps are being taken to rationalize airfares to Prayagraj and the number of flights has been increased to meet the increasing traffic demand. Currently, 132 flights are operating from various cities of the country to Prayagraj with about 80,000 monthly seats. Prayagraj is connected through direct and connecting flights reaching 26 cities.
