Indigo New Update: On Pratt & Whitney engine problems, DGCA has asked the company to start maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in India soon.

The country’s largest airline Indigo has decided to ground some more aircraft due to problems in Pratt & Whitney engines. The company has taken this decision for the fourth quarter of the current financial year. After this, 50 less aircraft will fly from IndiGo’s fleet in the fourth quarter.

Actually, Indigo planes are fitted with Pratt & Whitney engines. There are problems with these engines for some time now. DGCA was informed about this by the airline. On the problem of Pratt & Whitney engine, DGCA has asked the company to start maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in India soon. It was said by DGCA that maintain the engines of the aircraft in India, otherwise the aircraft will have to be grounded in the beginning of 2024.
A team from Pratt & Whitney had also met DGCA officials in this regard last week. IndiGo and GoAir have also been using the new generation PW engine for the Airbus A320neo plane. There are many problems in these for the last six years. If Indigo’s problem is not solved soon, hundreds of engines will get damaged. There is a need to replace the PW engines of about 50 existing aircraft of IndiGo. Otherwise, there is a danger of grounding of a large number of planes in the beginning of the year 2024.
Earlier, the company had directly blamed PW for the closure of GoAir’s airline services. According to the news published in Times of India, when Pratt & Whitney’s India head Ashmita Sethi was asked about providing MRO facility at the local level, she said that India is a priority country for us. We are planning to make big investment here. We will decide on an effective way to provide service to our customers.
