Infosys, the country’s second-largest software exporter, has recruited about 11,900 college graduates in the financial year ending in 2024. This is a decline of 76 percent compared to last year. This was said by the company’s CEO and MD Salil Parekh at a time when the company has recorded a decline in the number of employees for the first time in two decades. This is also a big decline in campus hiring on a year-on-year basis, as the company hired more than 50,000 freshers in FY 2023.

Infosys’ employee headcount fell by 25,994 for the first time in at least 23 years since 2001. The total employee headcount for FY24 was 317,000.

Attrition reduced to 12.6 per cent Parekh said in the company’s annual report released on June 3, “We recruited about 11,900 college graduates in the year and ended the year with more than 3,17,000 employees. Our attrition reduced to 12.6 per cent. We trained more than 2,50,000 employees on AI skills. We continue to focus on gender diversity, with about 39 per cent of our workforce being female employees. Until the fourth quarter ended March 31, Infosys had avoided campus hiring for at least the previous three quarters as it wanted to monitor utilisation rates and follow a flexi hiring model. Changes in hiring model The company’s Chief Financial Officer Jayesh Sanghrajka said in the company’s fourth quarter earnings conference in April, “We have changed our hiring model a lot. Now we do not hire all the freshers from campus. We hire less than half of them from campus and more than half of them from campus.”
