Infosys Job Cut: Legendary tech company Infosys has fired more than 700 new employees. All of them had joined the company only recently. IT employee union Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) made this claim on Friday.
In fact, the union claimed that the new employees were fired just a few months after joining the company. Apart from this, the new employees who have been fired are being made to sign a confidentiality agreement, NITES said that this could be an attempt to suppress the details of the layoffs.
700 employees shown the way out
NITES President Harpreet Singh Saluja said in a statement, “In a shocking and unethical move, Infosys has started forcibly terminating nearly 700 campus recruits who were inducted only a few months ago.”
NITES also alleged that the company had also deployed bouncers and security personnel during the termination process to intimidate employees. Saluja claimed that this was done to ensure that employees do not carry mobile phones and they have no way to document the incident or seek help. The union has expressed concern over the sudden nature of these terminations and the impact it will have on the affected employees.
What did Infosys say?
Infosys has issued a statement regarding this entire incident. Infosys said in a statement that the freshers who were fired failed to pass several internal tests, which are part of the onboarding process. All freshers get three attempts to pass the assessment, failing which they will not be able to proceed with the organization, as also mentioned in their contract.
This process has been going on for decades
At the same time, the IT major said in a statement that this process has existed for more than two decades. However, the company argued that these measures are necessary to ensure that only those who meet the required standards are hired.
Demand for action against Infosys
On the other hand, NITES said that it is filing an official complaint with the Ministry of Labor and Employment, seeking immediate intervention and strict action against Infosys.
Saluja said that this blatant corporate exploitation cannot be allowed to continue, and we urge the government to take immediate action to uphold the rights and dignity of Indian IT employees.
