Beijing. The Chinese aircraft, equipped with the country’s own high-speed satellite Internet system, successfully completed its maiden voyage on Tuesday. This new system was tested on the flight number QW 9771 of Qingdao Airlines. The aircraft took off from Qingdao Liuting International Airport at 4.46 pm and landed at Chengdu Shuanglianu International Airport at 7.21 pm. During the flight, passengers on board the aircraft were able to access Internet services at speeds of more than 100 megabytes at an altitude of 10,000 meters.
According to the Global Times report, a live broadcast was also held during the time the aircraft was in the air. It was the first experiment of its kind in the history of civil aviation of China. Indeed, so far the aircraft has traditionally been operated by Ku band satellite internet. However, in such technology, internet speed is very slow.
Industry people say that if the aircraft starts getting fast internet then an ecosystem can be developed and services like e-commerce, retail and entertainment can be included. Providing such a facility can help bring China’s aviation industry back on track.
