This is such a facility, using which your chances of getting a confirmed ticket increase. Let us know how this feature works and how you can take advantage of it.

What is option plan

Railways started this option scheme for passengers in 2015. In this scheme, while booking online waiting ticket, passengers can also opt for another train to get confirmed ticket. By doing this, their chances of getting confirmed tickets increase. This scheme is also known as Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme (ATAS). With this, the Railways provides confirmed tickets to maximum number of its passengers.

Railway makes efforts

Due to the IRCTC Vikalp ticket booking scheme, the chances of passengers getting confirmed tickets in trains during the festive season and on other occasions increases significantly. Although VIKALP does not mean that you will get confirmed ticket. Railways makes every effort to get confirmed tickets for its passengers under this scheme, but it depends on the availability of trains and berths in them.

How to use VIKALP Scheme

To use the Vikalp scheme of IRCTC, you should check the status of availability of seats in your train while booking tickets from the IRCTC website. If the seat is not available in the train and the case is of waiting list, then you should select VIKALP while booking train ticket online.

After this IRCTC asks you about other trains of your choice, in which you can select 7 trains. If the Vikalp option is not available during ticket booking, then you can also go to the booked ticket history and select the Vikalp ticket. After this, Indian Railways will try to book confirmed tickets for you in other trains of your choice.
