In Premium Tatkal also, like Tatkal, tickets can be booked about 24 hours before the journey. Premium Tatkal booking is done at the time of Tatkal only. Booking for AC class tickets starts at 10 am while for non AC booking starts at 11 am. IRCTC does not allow booking to any agent for Premium Tatkal.
Tickets cost more
There are more chances of getting a seat in this than in Tatkal. Also, Premium Tatkal is considered to be the costliest ticket in Indian Railways. The ticket fare in Premium Tatkal is almost double that of Standard Tatkal. Dynamic fare applies to this. The ticket price is not fixed. It goes up and down according to the available number of vacant seats. This option can be availed through the website and mobile application of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.
How is it different from Tatkal?
There is a difference between Tatkal and Premium Tatkal regarding some things. First of all, the facility of premium tatkal is not available in all trains. Premium Tatkal fare is higher than Tatkal. Refund is not available on cancellation of tickets in Premium Tatkal. Only confirmed tickets are available in Premium Tatkal. Premium tatkal ticket booking can be done online only. Premium for children has to be paid in full if the ticket is booked in advance.
How to book premium tatkal ticket
Passengers should check Premium Tatkal train schedule before making reservation as this service is not available in all trains. This is the way to book tickets online-
- Log in to the IRCTC website using your login ID and password.
- Go to the Book Ticket section and fill in your travel details.
- Select the date of travel and click on submit.
- Now you can see the list of trains.
- Click on the “Premium Tatkal” button next to the quota section showing the train with
- Premium Tatkal ticket.
- Book train tickets by selecting the train with the lowest fare.
- Fill in the correct details of the passengers as per Voter ID, PAN or any other ID card issued by the Government.
- If possible, take a printout of the ticket or use the e-ticket received in the mail
