New Delhi. The Income Tax Department has refunded more than Rs 1,36,779 crore to more than 1.27 crore taxpayers till December 13 in the current financial year (2021-22).
This figure is for refunds made between 1 April 2021 and 13 December 2021. Out of this, the personal income tax refund was Rs 46,438 crore, while the tax refund of corporates is Rs 90,340 crore. This includes 90.95 lakh refunds worth Rs 18,848.60 crore for the assessment year 2021-22.
Income Tax Department tweeted and said, “CBDT has issued refunds of Rs 1,36,779 crore to more than 1.27 crore taxpayers during April 1, 2021 to December 13, 2021. Income tax refund of Rs 46,438 crore has been done in 1,25,34,644 cases while company tax refund of Rs 90,340 crore has been done in 2,02,705 cases.
Significantly, in the last financial year 2020-21, the Income Tax Department had issued tax refunds of Rs 2.62 lakh crore to 2.38 crore taxpayers. This was 43.2 percent more than the refund of Rs 1.83 lakh crore issued in the financial year 2019-20.
