Income tax return file without PAN: The Income Tax Department has made it mandatory to link PAN card with Aadhaar. This deadline ended last year itself and the PAN card of those who did not link it before that has been deactivated. Taxpayers face many problems due to closure of PAN card.
When a taxpayer goes to file income tax return, PAN card is required for this purpose also. Now, if you have not linked your PAN with Aadhaar till the deadline and PAN becomes inoperative, then questions may be coming in your mind that how will ITR be filled now. There are difficulties in filing returns without PAN card, but it is possible to file.
Deadline for filing ITR
In case of PAN card being inoperative, you can do the work of ITR filing through Aadhaar. Now the new financial year will start from April 1 and with it the work of filing income tax returns will start gaining momentum. The deadline for filing income tax returns for the current financial year, which ends on March 31, is till July. That is, for the financial year 2023-24 (assessment year 2024-25), such taxpayers who do not require audit can file ITR without penalty till 31 July 2024.

In case of inoperative PAN, taxpayer can take the help of Aadhaar OTP to file ITR. ITR can be filed in case of closed PAN with the help of Aadhaar OTP verification. After that, to verify the return, taxpayers will have to generate electronic verification code through alternative methods like net banking, ATM etc.
Income tax refund will get stuck
If your refund is being made then you are going to face problems in it. The Income Tax Department had clearly said that the income tax refund of taxpayers whose PAN is not linked to Aadhaar will get stuck. The deadline for linking PAN with Aadhaar was till June 30, 2023. PAN can still be linked with Aadhaar, but the taxpayer will have to make some payment for it.
