ITR Filing: The Permanent Account Number (PAN) of the taxpayer is the user ID. In such a situation, it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. If you have not logged in to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, then first of all you need to check whether your PAN is valid or not
ITR Filing: User ID and password are required to log in to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. To file income tax return, one has to log in to the department’s e-filing portal. The taxpayer’s Permanent Account Number (PAN) is the user ID. In such a situation, it is mandatory to link PAN with Aadhaar. If you have not logged in to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department, then first of all you need to check whether your PAN is valid or not. Let’s try to know the method.
1. First of all you have to check whether your name and date of birth on PAN is correct or not. After that you have to visit incometax.gov.in .
2. After visiting this site, you will see ‘Verify Your PAN Status’ in the left side menu. You have to click on it.
3. After that a page will open in front of you, on which you will have to enter your PAN, full name, date of birth and mobile number. Keep in mind that you have to fill only the details given in the PAN.
4. A six-digit OTP will be sent to your mobile.
5. If the verification is successful, you will get this message: Your PAN is active and the details are as per the PAN.
After verifying the validity of PAN, you will also have to check whether your Aadhaar is linked to your PAN or not. If both are not linked then PAN will become inoperative. However, even after this you will be able to file returns. But, you will not get the refund money until you link both. You can link both by paying a penalty of Rs 1000.
To link the two, follow this process:
1. First of all, check on the e-filing portal what is the status of your Aadhaar and PAN.
2. You have to enter your PAN and Aadhaar details.
3. If both are linked then you don’t have to do anything.
4. If both are not linked then you have to go to www.incometax.gov.in. Your PAN will be your user ID.
5. Then you have to go to e-File-e-Pay Tax-New Payment.
6. Select ‘Other Receipts (500)’ in the payment time and continue
7. You will see a pre-filled amount of Rs 1000, you have to click on Continue.
8. Select your bank account and proceed to complete the payment.
9. You can download the challan by clicking on e-File-e-Pay Tax-Payment History.
10. After that you have to click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ tab. It will appear on the left side of the homepage of the e-filing portal.
11. You will have to enter PAN and Aadhaar and validate the information.
The deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar was June 30, 2023. You can make your PAN operational within 30 days by paying a penalty of Rs 1000.
