Last year, a total of 6.77 income tax returns were filed. The Income Tax Department expects more returns to be filed this year.

What has CBDT said?

The Income Tax Department has also rejected the speculations that the last date for filing income tax returns will be extended. The department has said that there is no plan to extend the deadline. The CBDT Chairman has said that complaints of glitches in the e-filing portal have been received. Service providers have been informed about this. The volume is very high. Compliance is also good. He said that he has been assured that the portal will start working properly soon.
