How to file income tax without login: The Income Tax Department has started a big facility for taxpayers. Now taxpayers can pay their income tax online even without logging in. This facility has been made available on the official e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department under the name ‘e-Pay Tax’. This initiative was made public by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) on Tuesday.

Pay tax without username and password

CBDT said that now taxpayers do not need a username or password to pay income tax. They only have to enter their PAN number and mobile number, after which an OTP will be sent to their mobile. After OTP verification, taxpayers can pay tax directly. Through the ‘e-Pay Tax’ facility, the taxpayer will first have to choose the type of tax such as income tax, advance tax, or any kind of penalty. After this, by filling the relevant details, they can complete the payment by clicking on the ‘Pay Now’ button. On completion of the payment, they will get instant confirmation through SMS and email and they can also download their payment receipt (Challan).

One more step towards Digital India

CBDT said that this is not just a technological upgrade, but it is a new way of connecting with taxpayers by the government. Its aim is to promote simplicity, transparency and promptness. This facility is especially useful for individual taxpayers and small traders, who will get relief from the complex processes of paying tax.

Timely compliance will be promoted

This initiative will encourage timely tax payment and eliminate hassles like standing in line at the bank, filling long forms or last minute worries. CBDT believes that this will improve service touchpoints and help connect citizens with the tax system.

Also understand the basics of income tax

In India, income tax is levied on the income of every person under the Income Tax Act 1961. This income is earned in the previous year and is recovered as tax in the assessment year. For example, income from 1 April 2024 to 31 March 2025 will be called the previous year and its tax will be taken in the assessment year 2025-26.

The ‘e-Pay Tax’ service is a simple, fast and reliable option according to the needs of the digital age. It gives taxpayers another step towards digital empowerment and strengthens India’s e-governance model.
