Start of financial year

How to file ITR without Form 16?

There are some options with the help of which income tax can be filed even without Form 16, you can do that too. But all the deductions and exemptions are valid only in the old tax regime. In the new tax regime, only a standard deduction of ₹ 75,000 is available.

Submit salary slips

With the help of salary slips of the whole year, you can file income tax yourself. Your salary slip of the whole year contains information about your income, allowances and deductions. This will help in filling the correct income details.

Calculate taxable income

Calculate your gross income by adding basic salary, HRA, LTA, bonus etc. from your salary slip. Then you fix the taxable income by deducting the standard deduction of ₹ 50,000 and things like HRA and professional tax. Along with this, find out the income other than salary like returns, dividends etc. from the bank statement and add it to the income.

Download Form 26AS

If you want to file income tax yourself, then find its website and easily download Form 26AS from there. Then in this form, complete information about TDS and tax deposit related to your PAN is easily available. Match this information with your income details and in case of any mistake, you should immediately contact your employer or bank.

Why is Form 16 necessary?

Form 16 is a document given to the employees of the company. This document certifies that the TDS deducted from their salary has been deposited with the government. This form contains information about your PAN, TAN and TDS, salary breakup, taxable income, deductions like 80C/80D etc.

What if you don’t have Form 16?
