ITR Login: The last date for filing income tax returns for salaried taxpayers was July 31 and almost all of them have filed it within the deadline and are now waiting for refunds. While some have got their ITR refund credited in their accounts, others have still not received it. There could be many possible reasons why the ITR refund is not yet credited to his account. Let’s know about it…

ITR filing process

If the ITR filing is still under process, then you may get the refund late. The Income Tax Department generally takes a few days to process the ITR. If it’s been a long time since you filed your ITR and you haven’t received your refund yet, you should check the status of your refund on the official website.

ITR Refund Eligibility

You also need to check whether you are eligible to get any refund or not. You will receive an income tax return refund only if the Income Tax Department processes your income tax return and makes you eligible for it. Once the Income Tax Department confirms your eligibility, the refund is usually credited within four weeks.

Wrong bank account

If you have given wrong bank details while filing the return, then the ITR refund will not be credited to your account. It is important to note that the name registered in your bank account should match the details of your PAN card. The refund will be credited to the bank account that you have mentioned in your ITR.

E-Verification of ITR

ITR refund will be issued only if the ITR filing is properly e-verified as it is a mandatory requirement in the process of filing ITR and getting refund. All taxpayers must complete the e-verification process within 30 days of filing their ITR.

Unresolved dues from previous financial year

If you have some unresolved dues from previous financial year, you may face delay in ITR refund. In such cases, your refund will be used to settle those outstanding amounts. However, you will be duly informed about the same through an information notice.

Scrutiny of ITR Refunds

Some cases of ITR filings go for scrutiny through the Income Tax Department to ensure accuracy and compliance. If your return is under scrutiny process, it will take time to get credited in the ITR refund account.

Mismatch information in Form 26AS

Taxpayers should know that Form 26AS is a consolidated detail of all the taxes paid against your PAN. If there is a mismatch between the TDS (Tax Deducted at Source) details in your return and the TDS details in Form 26AS, it may delay the refund.

Technical glitches

Apart from all other reasons, if there are some technical glitches on the income tax portal, the refund will be delayed. In such a situation, you can contact ITD helpline for more information.
