ITR Refund: If the taxpayer has declared some more amount in ITR and the AIS documents claim more or less amount then the refund may get stuck. Refund is issued only after ITR is processed.
Many taxpayers have filed income tax returns on time. Despite this, the refund has not come in his account. On this, the department says that this could be possible due to mismatch between Form 26AS and Annual Information Report (AIS). Due to this, the refund may get stuck even after verifying the return.
The department says that after the Income Tax Return (ITR) is verified by the taxpayer, the tax officer processes it. In this process, the total transactions, income, tax paid, exemption and refund claims made by the taxpayer in the assessment year as recorded in Form 26AS and AIS are examined. If the taxpayer has declared some more amount in the ITR and the AIS documents claim more or less amount then the refund may get stuck. Refund is issued only after the ITR is processed. In such pending cases, revised returns will have to be filed.
Department will send notice: If the taxpayer has paid less tax and has filed ITR, then the Income Tax Department will send him a notice asking him to make the full payment. Will also give instructions to fill revised ITR. Only after this the taxpayer will be entitled to get the refund. Even in this situation the taxpayer may have to wait longer.
Keep these things in mind
- If there is a delay in getting the refund, then first check the ITR status.
- If e-verification is not done then refund will not be processed.
- Also see e-mail. The department e-mails information related to ITR and refund.
- Also check the bank account number given for refund. No refund will be given in case of mistake.
- Also check the name entered in bank account, PAN and Aadhar card. Refunds may also get stuck due to spelling errors.
