You have to ensure within 120 days from the date of filing ITR whether your filled ITR has reached the department or not, if not, then follow this process immediately.
Income Tax Return (ITR): If you cannot use online methods to verify your Income Tax Return (ITR), you also have the option to send ITR-V physically. For this, you will have to take a printout of ITR-V and send it to the Income Tax Department at: CPC, Post Box No. 1, Electronic City Post Office, Bangaluru-560100, Karnatak, India.

Actually, unless you verify after filing your ITR, the Income Tax Department considers it correct. In such a situation, if you miss to verify, then many types of losses may have to be suffered in future. Not only is it very easy to verify ITR, but it also has half a dozen options through which verification can be done.
From Aadhar’s OTP
This is the most commonly used option. For this it is necessary that your Aadhaar is linked with your mobile. Also PAN-Aadhaar should be linked. Now you go to the Income Tax e-Verify page and select the option of Verification by Mobile OTP. Then proceed through the option ‘Continue’ and click on ‘I agree to the verification through my Aadhaar’ on the new screen. OTP will come on your mobile, by entering which you can verify ITR.
Through bank account
For this you must have a pre-verified bank account. Here you can verify your ITR by generating the electronic verification code. This code will come to your mail and mobile.
Through Demat account
Its process is also like that of a bank account. Go to the e-Verify page and select the Demat account option. On pressing the Continue button, you will receive an electronic verification code, which can be entered for ITR verification.
Through ATM card
For this, you go to the bank’s ATM and swipe the card and select the option of ‘PIN for ITR filing’. An electronic verification code will be sent to your mobile. Then you open the e-verify page on the income tax portal and select the option ‘I have ECV’ and enter the electronic verification code in it. ITR will be verified.
Through net banking
Go to the e-Verify page, select the option of Net Banking and enter the name of your bank and click on ‘Continue’. After this, log in to net banking by visiting your bank’s portal. You can verify your ITR by selecting the option of e-verify.
Offline verification
If you are not able to verify through the above online mode, then fill your ITR-V form and post the speed to the Income Tax Department. It will go to the address of Income Tax Department located in Bangalore and you will be informed on mobile and email as soon as the form is received there. Keep in mind that your form should be received by the department within 120 days of filing ITR.
Check the status of verification in these ways
- First of all go to this link https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal.
- On the home page, scroll down to the ‘Our Services’ section. Check Income Tax Return (ITR) status under this section.
- Then a new page will open on your screen. Receipt number for filing ITR and mobile number entered by you while filing ITR.
- After entering these details, One Time Password (OTP) will be sent to your registered mobile number via SMS. Note that this OTP will be valid for 15 minutes only. Enter OTP and click on submit.
Status will be displayed as ‘ITR Verified’
After entering the OTP, the current status of ITR will be displayed. If ITR-V has reached the Income Tax Account, the status will be shown as ‘ITR-Verified’. If you haven’t reached the tax department yet, it will show as ‘Pending e-verification’ status. Also, once the ITR-V is received by the Income Tax Department, you will be assured through e-mail or SMS. If your ITR has been verified. After this the ITR process will start.
