ITR Verification- The Income Tax Department processes the ITR only after the taxpayer verifies it. The taxpayer can verify his ITR online.
ITR Verification: The last date for filing income tax return (ITR Filing Last Date) is 31st July. Till now lakhs of taxpayers have filed their returns. But, you have to keep in mind that just filling ITR is not enough. It is also important to verify the ITR. If the taxpayer does not verify it after filing the ITR, then the Income Tax Department declares that ITR invalid. Therefore, if you have also filed ITR, then do not forget to verify it.
The Income Tax Department processes the ITR only after the taxpayer verifies it. The taxpayer can verify his ITR online. This is called e-verification. After the taxpayer’s return is verified, it usually takes 15 to 45 days to process. Earlier, income tax payers could verify ITR up to 120 days after filing ITR online. But, this time has been reduced to 30 days.
Verify within a month
According to the website of the Income Tax Department, the income tax payer can verify his ITR up to 30 days after the date of filing the ITR. The 30-day rule came into effect in August 2022. CBDT had issued a notification in this regard. The notification said, “Form ITR-V has to be filed within 30 days of filing the electronic ITR. If ITR-V is filed after this period, it will be deemed that the return in respect of which this form has been filed was never filed. Then the income tax payer will have to fill the data (return) again and then within a time period of 30 days, Form ITR-V has to be filed.” ITR is invalid without verification
The last step in the process of filing Income Tax Return (ITR) is to verify it. Without verification, ITR will be considered invalid. In this case, you will have to file the return again and verify it. If you do not verify, you will not get income tax refund. If a person fails to verify his ITR before the due date, he can request the department to verify his ITR late, citing the reason for the delay. If this request is accepted, he can verify the return.
