Jio’s upcoming GigaFiber broadband service has been the star of the Indian tech scene since it was launched under the public beta mode. Unlike most of its rivals, Jio GigaFiber will utilise the fiber optic network to ensure faster and stable Internet speeds. Also, since it’s coming from Jio it is expected to be extremely affordable when compared to the current crop of broadband operators. Although Jio hasn’t declared the official prices yet, many are expecting GigaFiber to undercut all existing broadband operators with an aggressive pricing strategy. And thanks to leaked information, we now have a hint of the prices.
The latest set of leaks have come out in the media talking about the pricing of Jio GigaFiber. And from what it seems, GigaFiber could gain a huge advantage over rival operators and draw more subscribers. According to leaks, the base plan will offer speeds of 50Mbps and will be available for Rs 600 per month. The 100Mbps plan that has been available to Preview subscribers is expected to cost Rs 1,000 per month.
Note that these are unconfirmed prices and Jio hasn’t commented officially. However, with the launch expected to happen in Reliance’s Annual General Meeting within a few weeks, it seems that Jio could offer GigaFiber with these two plans initially with an affordable pricing structure.
A few months ago, industry insider leaked out a lot of information about one of the subscription plans. Known internally as the Triple Play Plan, the plan would cost Rs 600 per month and offer 100GB data per month at speeds of 100Mbps. Along with the broadband data benefits, Jio would also offer complimentary access to Jio’s HomeTV service and a landline connection. The HomeTV is expected to be Jio’s foray into the DTH operator segment while the landline will enable free voice service.
Originally, Jio had only one plan that offered a 100Mbps connection under the Preview offer. Users had to pay Rs 4,500 as security deposit and they could access data for free. However, a few months ago, many subscribers reported that they were getting the GigaFiber connection with a security deposit fo Rs 2,500. With this plan, subscribers are only able to get speeds of 50Mbps and be restricted to a single-band router.
As of now, there’s no confirmation on the prices but stay tuned for all the updates regarding GigaFiber. Reliance is expected to announce it commercially within a few weeks.
