All 15 MLAs who have resigned can’t be forced to attend the House. No whip is applicable to them. That means, Kumaraswamy (the Chief Minister) has lost his mandate and he doesn’t command a majority. Therefore, he (Kumaraswamy) must reign tomorrow. This is a victory of the Constitution and democracy. It is a moral victory for the rebel MLAs. This (SC ruling) is only an interim order, the Supreme Court will decide about the power of the Speaker in the future. I have great respect for the Speaker.

Karnataka crisis live updates | Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the rebel MLAs, has said: The three-line whip issued against them (rebel MLAs) to attend the House tomorrow is not operative in view of the SC’s judgement. Secondly, the Speaker has been given time to decide on the resignations as and when he wants to decide.

Karnataka political crisis live updates: Speaker KR Ramesh Kumar yesterday told SC that he, being a constitutional functionary, cannot be directed to first decide on the resignations of rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs, that too within a particular time frame.
Senior advocate AM Singhvi, appearing for the Speaker, told a bench headed by the Chief Justice that disqualification applications against these MLAs were moved prior to their resignations and the Speaker was well within his right to choose his course of action.

Congress’ state unit chief warns rebel MLAs of disqualification
State Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao yesterday claimed that the party’s rebel MLAs camping in Mumbai had been locked down and may be disqualified.
Rao took to Twitter to warn the rebel leaders of the possible consequences that may jeopardise their career. “Just heard. The rebel Congress MLAs in Mumbai are in complete lockdown. Mobiles taken away, can’t step outside, (they are) under house arrest,” Rao alleged. (PTI)

Karnataka crisis: SC to pronounce order on July 17 on rebel MLAs plea
The Supreme Court will pronounce its order on July 17 in the pleas of 15 rebel Congress-JD(S) MLAs seeking direction for Karnataka Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar to accept their resignations from the Assembly.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi concluded the hearings of the rebel MLAs, the Speaker and Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy.
Summing up the arguments, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for the 15 rebel MLAs, asked the bench to continue with its interim order directing the Speaker to maintain status quo on the issue of resignations and disqualification of the MLAs. -

Will decide on disqualification, resignation of rebel MLAs by July 17: Speaker to SC
Karnataka Assembly Speaker K R Ramesh Kumar Tuesday said in the Supreme Court that he would decide on both disqualification and resignation of the rebel MLAs by Wednesday and requested it to modify its earlier order directing him to maintain status quo on the matter.
Senior advocate A M Singhvi, appearing for the Speaker, submitted before a bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi that nobody is saying that Speakers are not fallible but he cannot be asked to decide the matter in a time-bound manner.
“How can the Speaker be directed to decide in a particular manner?” Singhvi asked the court.
“Such orders are not passed even to a trial court,” he said. (PTI)
