History has been made in the US Supreme Court. Ketanji Brown Jackson has become the first black woman judge on the US Supreme Court. Ketanji Brown Jackson’s name has been approved by the US Senate. After the consent of the Senate, now he will be appointed as a judge in the Supreme Court. The US Senate voted 53 in favor of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson and 47 against. Except for 3 senators of the Republican Party, everyone else voted on the party line. Ketanji Brown Jackson will replace retiring Judge Stephen Breyer. Senate leader Chuck Schumer has expressed happiness that this is a very wonderful moment for America, the Senate and the Supreme Court. It’s a happy day.

White House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also expressed happiness and said that it is a matter of great pride for the country. During a Senate hearing last month, Jackson spoke of his parents’ struggles through racial segregation and said his path as a black American was cleared after the enactment of civil rights laws. She told the senators that she would enforce the law without fear or favour. She will be joined by three other women, Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Amy Connie Barrett. Which means that four out of nine judges will be women for the first time in history.

Ketanji Brown Jackson is about 51 years old. He started his career as a clerk in the field of law. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a law degree from Harvard. Before becoming a federal judge in 2013, she served on the US Sentencing Commission. Jackson has been an appellate judge and has nearly nine years of experience on federal benches. Ketanji Jackson also served as the United States District Judge for the District of Columbia from 2013 to 2021.
