Kolkata nagar nigam election result live updates: Counting of votes for Kolkata Municipal Corporation election is going on. Elections were held on Sunday on a total of 144 wards votes. Due to the violence in the elections, BJP has filed a petition in the court to cancel them.

Counting of votes for 144 wards of Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections began on Tuesday morning. The ruling Trinamool Congress has made a big lead since the counting of votes began. Counting of votes started at 8 am. Counting of votes continues. Celebrations are being held outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata on the victory of TMC in the preliminary results.

Trinamool Congress has won 13 seats and is leading in 115 seats. BJP is leading in 5 seats in Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections. While independent candidates are leading on 3.

According to the West Bengal State Election Commission, the ruling Trinamool Congress has won 13 seats in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. BJP is leading in five wards of KMC.

Kolkata Municipal Corporation election results: TMC leads in 93 seats
Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is leading in 93 seats as the counting of votes for Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections is underway.

63 percent voting was done
Sporadic incidents of violence, including the throwing of bombs at two booths, affected the KMC polls on Sunday even as over 63 per cent of the nearly 40.5 lakh voters exercised their franchise.


950 candidates in fray
40,48,357 people were eligible to vote in the Kolkata municipal elections. The total number of male and female voters are 21,17,840 and 19,30,444 respectively. Voting for the KMC elections took place at 4,959 polling stations spread over 1,676 premises. There are 950 candidates in the fray for the KMC elections.

Counting of votes amid demand for cancellation of elections
Meanwhile, a CPM candidate has filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court on Monday requesting cancellation of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections held on Sunday. The candidate has accused Trinamool Congress supporters of inciting violence in the elections. At the same time, the BJP filed another petition seeking permission to give evidence of the violence during the elections to the bench.

Hearing will be held on December 23
Chief Justice Prakash Srivastava and Justice R. Bhardwaj had on Friday directed the State Election Commission, the State Director General of Police and the Kolkata Police Commissioner to submit reports on the conduct of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections in a peaceful, fair and free manner by December 23.

The division bench allowed the plea of CPI(M) candidate Deblina Sarkar to file the petition by her counsel and said it would be heard along with the BJP’s petition on December 23. Alleging violence by Trinamool Congress supporters, Deblina Sarkar’s counsel Sabyasachi Chatterjee said the petition has sought cancellation of the KMC elections held on Sunday.
