Liquor Prices Hike: Those who are fond of liquor in this state will now have to shell out more. Its prices are going to increase in Tamil Nadu from February 1 (Liquor Price Hike in Tamil Nadu). Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) has announced that the new prices of liquor in the state will come into effect from February 1, 2024. After this decision of TASMAC, the prices of many liquors like beer, brandy, whiskey and rum are going to increase by Rs 10 to Rs 80.
How much will the price increase?
According to the report of Economic Times, after the order of TASMAC, now Rs 10 extra will have to be paid for a 650 ml bottle of beer in the state. There has been an increase of Rs 10 on one quarter brandy, whiskey and rum of ordinary and medium range. A quart of wine contains 180 ml. At the same time, their premium range is going to increase by Rs 20 per quarter.
Why did the price of liquor increase?
There has been an increase in the sales tax and excise duty (IMFL) on foreign liquor produced in India. In such a situation, the effect of this increase is visible on the prices of liquor in the state. After the decision to increase the sales tax and excise duty on liquor in the state, TASMAC has decided to increase the prices of liquor.
How much will it affect customers?
The increase in liquor prices in Tamil Nadu by TASMAC will simply affect the consumers. Now they will have to pay more for liquor ranging from normal to premium brands. 40 percent of TASMAC’s total sales are of normal range liquor which is available between Rs 130 to Rs 520. Whereas the price of medium range is from Rs 160 to Rs 640. TASMAC also sells 128 premium brands in Tamil Nadu.
