Liquor Shops Closed in Delhi: There is bad news for liquor lovers in Delhi. Gradually, about 200 liquor shops have been closed in the state. The owners of these shops say that they have had to close their shops due to the business not running properly and the new excise policy system.

‘200 liquor shops closed’

Everyone is shocked by the news of the closure of shops on such a large scale in Delhi. It is said that a lot of money is earned in the business of liquor. That’s why many people try their luck to get the license of Liquor Shops, while other than this myth, the reason for the closure of so many shops has been attributed to the financial loss in these liquor shops.

What does the official figure say?

Let us inform that the Delhi government had issued licenses to 849 liquor shops under its Excise Policy 2021-22 last year. But till the end of May this year, only 639 shops were found open here. According to the new list of retail liquor shops shared by the Excise Department on its website, this figure has come down to 464 in the early days of June.

At the same time, an official of the Excise Department says that the Excise Policy 2021 was extended till July 31, but licensees in nine out of 32 areas did not get their license renewed due to different reasons. Officials also said, “Out of 272 municipal wards, 100 were non-conforming where shops could not open due to action of municipal bodies against violation of Delhi Master Plan rules.”

Liquor traders told this reason

It is noteworthy that the Excise Policy 2021-22, which ended on May 31, was extended by the Excise Department for two months. Meanwhile, liquor traders claimed that many license holders did not opt for the extension and closed their shops as they were already paying high license fee. The liquor merchant also said, ‘There were many reasons for closing the shop. Like opening of new liquor shops in non-confirming wards, heavy discounts on liquor increased the competition in the business and even with the advent of new brands, they had to take difficult steps like closing the shop.

‘One to one free’ offer split

A liquor trader said that after allowing retailers to give discounts to consumers, some big companies promoted new brands in the market by introducing schemes like ‘buy one get one free’. Then the back of his business was broken by giving a huge discount of 40 percent.
