Gas prices are changed by the government oil companies at the beginning of every month, but this time the price of gas (LPG Gas Cylinder Price) has been increased in the middle of the month as well. On August 16, the price of LPG was increased by Rs.25. After which the price of gas cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 859.50. If we talk about the last one year, then till now the price of LPG gas has increased by Rs 265.50.
Will the subsidy on cooking gas end?
Regarding the subsidy on LPG, a news is coming out these days that the government can end LPG subsidy. The reduction of petroleum subsidy in the budget is being linked to this. Data from Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC) shows that since May 2020, there is zero subsidy on domestic LPG in some markets like Delhi. But it is not clear how many other cities are under it. By the way, the government is giving some subsidy to LPG consumers in remote areas due to high transport charges.
The subsidy given by the government is decreasing year after year. As the outgo was Rs 29,627 crore in FY20, it further reduced to Rs 25,520 crore. The Finance Ministry has reduced petroleum subsidy to Rs 12,480 crore for the financial year 2022.
While the government already has more than 8 crore consumers under Ujjwala, on the other hand the government has also set a target of increasing the number of beneficiaries by one crore under the Ujjwala scheme. In a written reply in Parliament, the government has said that 3.2 crore Ujjwala beneficiaries did not refill LPG cylinders in the first quarter of FY22.
Cylinder became costlier by Rs 100 in last December
Last year there was a steady increase in the price of LPG. Last year only in the month of December, the prices of LPG cylinders were increased twice. Its rate was increased from Rs 594 in November to 644 on 1 December and then again on 15 December its price was increased to Rs 694. That is, within a month, an increase of Rs 100 was made. This year also, an increase has been registered in the price of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder.
