This hike in the price of LPG will be for both the poor and general users benefiting under the ‘Ujjwala’ scheme. Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the increase of Rs 50 in gas prices will be effective from April 8.

Still Rs 303 cheaper for these customers

After the hike, the price of LPG for Ujjwala users will increase from Rs 503 to Rs 553 per cylinder in the national capital. At the same time, for general consumers, now the price of 14.2 kg LPG cylinder will be Rs 853. That is, Ujjwala customers will get a cylinder cheaper by Rs 300 as compared to general customers. Let us tell you that the prices of LPG vary in different states depending on local taxes. Last time in March 2024, it was reduced by Rs 100.

What did Hardeep Singh Puri say?

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that the international standard average Saudi CP used to fix LPG price increased by 63 percent from $ 385 in July 2023 to $ 629 per tonne in February 2025. With this, the price of LPG in Delhi should have been Rs 1,028.50 per cylinder. Puri said, “But public sector petroleum marketing companies have been controlling the prices till now. Selling gas at a price below the cost has caused a loss of Rs 41,338 crore to public sector companies in the financial year 2024-25. The price has been increased marginally in view of their increasing losses.” He said LPG prices will be reviewed every month and any softening will be passed on to consumers. The Petroleum Minister said the hike of Rs 50 per cylinder will only cover future costs and for past costs, the Petroleum Ministry will seek budgetary support from the Finance Ministry.
