At present, there will be facility of connection transfer in the agency of the same company. In the first phase, the government has started this facility in Chandigarh, Pune, Ranchi, Coimbatore and Gurgaon. Soon it will be implemented across the country.
Tarun Kapoor, Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, has told Dainik Jagran that it is being implemented on a pilot basis so that gas agencies can become more vigilant about the service of LPG consumers. He said that the intention of the government is not only to implement this scheme in the entire country, but if everything goes well, then later the customers will also have the facility to transfer the connection to the agency of another company. He believes that this will increase the competition among gas agencies to improve the quality of service and it will prove to be a better step for the customers.
29 crore consumers, only three companies
Presently there are 29 crore LPG consumers in India and only three government companies are in their service. The government feels that there is a lot of lethargy among these companies to improve the quality of service. After getting the facility of selection of delivery agency, there will be no tendency for gas agencies to postpone customer complaints.
Facility to choose agency at the time of online booking
The gas agency will have no role in this new arrangement. Customers will be able to decide from which agency they want to take the cylinder at the time of online gas cylinder refill.
Another official of the Petroleum Ministry said that since the oil company has to spend a lot of money to create a customer, it will not be allowed to move immediately from one company to another agency. Once this service is implemented across the country, in the next phase, it can be allowed to get gas refilled from any agency of any company in its area.
