PM Ujjwala Yojana: There is great news for the people using LPG cylinders under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). The government has increased the subsidy on LPG cylinder by Rs 300 for one year. More than 9 crore people of the country will benefit from this decision of the government. The government has taken this decision today on March 7. The government has decided to extend the subsidy for one year i.e. till 31 March 2025. Under this, eligible buyers will be given a subsidy of Rs 300 for each LPG cylinder for up to 12 refills in a year.
Earlier in October, the government had increased the subsidy amount for the beneficiaries from Rs 200 per LPG cylinder to Rs 300 per LPG cylinder. After this decision of the government, the total expenditure for the financial year 2024-25 will be Rs 12,000 crore. The government said the subsidy will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of eligible beneficiaries. The government said the effective price of domestic LPG for PMUY consumers is Rs 603 per 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi. The government said the average LPG consumption of PMUY consumers has increased by 29 per cent proportionately from 3.01 refills in FY2020 to 3.87 refills for FY24 (by January 2024).
How Ujjwala Yojana works:
The government transfers a cash sum of ₹1600 to eligible candidates for every new gas connection of 14.2 kg cylinder. The payment for 5 kg cylinder is Rs 1150. This subsidy covers the following:
Security Deposit of Cylinder – ₹1250 for 14.2 kg cylinder or ₹800 for 5 kg cylinder
₹150 for regulator
₹100 for LPG pipe
₹25 Domestic Gas Consumer Card
₹75 inspection fee
