The price of domestic gas cylinder has gone up to more than Rs 1,000. In such a situation, women are sitting with the hope that their kitchen expenses will come down from this budget. For this, the government is distributing free gas cylinders to the people under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana.
In the current financial year, the government had kept a budget of about 5812 crores for this scheme. Apart from this, a subsidy of Rs 200 is also given on 12 cylinders of the year under this scheme. In such a situation, it is expected that the government will continue this subsidy even further.
Subsidy on gas cylinder
The Central Government gives subsidy on 12 gas cylinders available under Ujjwala Yojana. Under subsidy, people are given Rs 200 on every LPG cylinder.
Now the government can extend it for the next financial year as well. According to media reports, the government can take this scheme even further to reach 100% people.
9 crore beneficiaries got the benefit
Let us tell you that in the last few years the prices of gas cylinders have increased tremendously. In such a situation, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced a subsidy of Rs 200 in May 2021 so that the poor are not burdened by this.
Keep in mind that this scheme was only for 12 cylinders in a financial year. More than 9 crore people were benefited from this scheme. The government has kept a provision of Rs 5812 crore for the current financial year.
What is ujjwala scheme
The Finance Ministry can extend this scheme for one more financial year. Under this scheme, LPG gas connections are given to people living below the poverty line. For this they are given financial assistance of Rs 1,600. Apart from this, there is a provision to give a free refill and stove.
The government started the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana in 2016 and brought Ujjwala 2.0 on 10 August 2021. Under this, the target was to deliver gas cylinders to the left out families as well.
