Maharashtra Bandh on 24th August: Who called it and why? Know the reason

Maharashtra Bandh: There is no political motive behind the bandh called by MVA on August 24. Know what Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said

Maharashtra Bandh: The round of political rhetoric continues on the Badlapur case of Maharashtra. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray has said that two girls of a school were allegedly sexually assaulted. Those who are seeing politics behind the demonstration held in Badlapur on Tuesday regarding this, are either abnormal or are the protectors of the culprits.

Why was Maharashtra Bandh called?

Uddhav Thackeray said that there is no political motive behind the bandh called by the opposition faction Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on August 24. The purpose of the bandh is to create awareness that the safety of women should be a priority and to ‘awaken’ the government as well.

While talking to the media, the Shiv Sena chief said that those who are feeling politics behind the Badlapur demonstration are either abnormal or are the protectors of the culprits.

What happened in Badlapur?

Thousands of people took to the streets and railway tracks in Badlapur town of Thane district on Tuesday to protest against the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-old girls on the premises of a local school. Angry parents, local residents and others blocked the railway tracks and vandalized the school where the two girls were allegedly sexually assaulted by a male assistant last week.

How many people were arrested in the Badlapur case?

At least 25 policemen were injured in incidents of stone pelting at the railway station and other parts of Badlapur during the protest. Police have arrested 72 people in connection with the violence during this period. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had said on Wednesday that the protest in Badlapur was politically motivated and most of the protesters were outsiders. The MVA has called for a Maharashtra bandh on August 24 to protest against the alleged sexual assault of the two girls.
