Aadhaar is an option that allows users to mask the Aadhaar card in the downloaded e-Aadhaar. The original Aadhaar number is hidden in the masked Aadhaar. This means that no one can misuse it.
If you have a registered mobile then you can download Masked Aadhaar online from the official website of UIDAI.
How to download
- First of all, go to the UIDAI website and go to the ‘Download Aadhaar’ option.
- Now you have to select the option of Aadhaar / VID / Enrollment ID and tick the option Aadhaar.
- Enter the required details in the given section and click on ‘Request OTP’.
- An OTP will be sent to your Aadhaar linked mobile number.
- Enter the OTP, enter other details and click on ‘Download Aadhaar’. You can download Masked Aadhaar on the system.
The copy of the Aadhar card you have downloaded will be password protected. It has to be entered to view the Aadhar card. The 8-digit masked Aadhaar password will be in the following format, namely the first four letters of the name followed by the year of birth.
Masked Aadhaar can be used to provide identity if required. However, it cannot be used to avail any benefits offered under government welfare schemes.
