In Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, a family still has the flag that was hoisted in the Congress session before independence. This flag is also related to the Azad Hind Fauj.
On this 15th August, India will enter its 75th year of independence, so many memories related to independence are being refreshed. A person still has the flag in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, which was hoisted in the Congress session before independence. This flag is also related to the Azad Hind Fauj. In the pre-independence Congress session, this tricolor was hoisted in Victoria Park, which has been preserved by the Nagar family till now.
In fact, on 23 November 1946, the 14 feet long and 9 feet wide tricolor was hoisted during the Congress session held at Victoria Park in Meerut before independence. This flag is present near Dev Nagar, a resident of Hastinapur in Meerut district, the memories of some important people of the country are associated with this historical flag.
For the family of Late Colonel Ganpatram Nagar, who was the Commander of the Division of Azad Hind Fauj in World War II, this flag is no less than an invaluable heritage.
This flag was handed over by Pandit Nehru,
Guru Nagar (61), who is the grandson of Late Colonel Ganpatram Nagar, living in Hastinapur, Meerut. It is said that before independence, this tricolor was hoisted in Victoria Park by the country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then Congress President Acharya JB Kriplani and his grandfather Ganpatram Nagar was also present at the time of flag hoisting. The flag hoisted in this session of Congress is still kept with great care by Dev Nagar, grandson of Major General Ganpatram Nagar in Hastinapur, Meerut.
Major General Ganpatram Nagar was born on 16 August 1905 to Pandit Vishnu Nagar, a resident of Meerut. Studied from Meerut College, after that he was appointed as King Officer in the British Army in 1928. After this, in 1939, he joined the Azad Hind Fauj and was awarded the post of Major General after being very close to Subhash Chandra Bose.
Even after so many years, the Nagar family, which protects this tricolor, says that it was given to their grandfather by Nehru ji as a memorial after the Congress session ended. He had given saying that the responsibility of protecting this tricolor is now yours. Since then till today i.e. even after 75 years of independence, this first tricolor of the country has been kept safe by the Nagar family.
The whole family is constantly taking care,
first this tricolor was near his grandfather Ganpatram Nagar, then this tricolor remained with his father Suraj Nagar, who was in the army. Now this tricolor is with him and brother Dev Nagar and after this the responsibility of protecting this tricolor will be with his son Vikrant Nagar. The Nagar family says that they take care of this tricolor.
Family members say that it is their good fortune to preserve the country’s first tricolor flag as a heritage. Therefore, along with its honor and respect, take full care of its safety. They always keep it in such a place where it gets respect according to the constitution and it is protected.
For 75 years, this tricolor is in its same form. But the difference between this tricolor till now is that Gandhiji’s spinning wheel was in the middle at that time. And now there is a circle in the middle of it. This family also takes full care of the cleanliness of the tricolor. Guru Nagar also tells that many people asked for this tricolor from his father but his father refused to give this flag. If his whole family agrees that this flag should go to a museum, then he will send this flag to the museum, but if one member of the family refuses, then he will keep this flag with himself.
