New Delhi. Taking a big decision, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made vehicle location tracking device mandatory in vehicles. The new rule has been implemented for dangerous goods carrier vehicles. The ministry, while issuing a gazette related to this on Monday, has also fixed the date for its implementation. From petroleum tankers to other similar goods carrier vehicles will come under the purview of this decision.

The ministry had earlier issued a notification in this regard, according to which it is mandatory to fit vehicle location tracking device from petroleum tanker to oxygen container. According to the ministry, GPS tracking will ensure proper monitoring and safety of these tankers. Apart from this, it will also ensure that there is no diversion or delay if needed.

According to the gazette issued by the ministry, the vehicle location tracking device company will have to be installed in the vehicles manufactured after September 2022. Apart from this, the time limit has been fixed for the existing vehicles. It will be mandatory to install Vehicle Location Tracking Device in these vehicles from January 2023.
