To control digital fraud, the government has so far blocked 1.4 lakh mobile numbers which were involved in financial fraud. Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi chaired a meeting on Cyber Security in the Financial Services Sector to discuss various issues including onboarding of banks and financial institutions on Citizen Financial Cyber Fraud Reporting and Management System (CFCFRMS) platform through API integration. done.

Eye kept on 35 lakh institutions

DoT analyzed 35 lakh major entities sending bulk SMS. Of these, 19,776 key entities involved in sending malicious SMS have been blacklisted and 30,700 SMS headers and 1,95,766 SMS templates have been disconnected. More than 500 arrests have been made so far. Around 3.08 lakh SIMs have been blocked, around 50,000 IMEIs have been blocked, and 592 fake links/APKs and 2,194 URLs have been blocked since April 2023. It says that there is a need to make people aware.

1.40 lakh numbers blocked

Banks and financial institutions are required to use regular 10-digit numbers for TRAI promotional activities and special series like ‘140xxx’ for commercial or promotional activities. During the deliberations, it was noted that the Department of Telecom (DOT) has developed AI-machine learning-based engine ASTR to detect mobile connections taken on fake/counterfeit documents. It said around 1.40 lakh mobile handsets either linked to disconnected mobile connections or misused in cyber crime or financial fraud have been blocked.

Integrating the CFCFRMS platform with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) will centralize the platform, further strengthening collaboration between police, banks and financial institutions. This will enable timely monitoring and prevention of fraudulent activities.
