HYDERABAD: Mobile retail chain Big C Mobiles will expand its network and product offerings to overcome the slowdown and margin pressure in the mobile handsets market emanating from deep discount sales on e-commerce platforms, said chairman and managing director M Balu Chowdary.
Addressing media in Hyderabad on Monday, he said the Rs 1,010 crore company in revenues last fiscal will now spread its product offerings to include IoT and connected devices, including smart televisions and air purifiers.
The 17-year old Hyderabad headquartered retailer is also looking to emerge as an Omni-channel firm by offering sales and services through the online platform, promising a 90-minute door delivery of products, he said.
Currently having 225 stores spread across Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, Big C plans to add 75 stores, mostly large-format stores by December next, apart from foraying into Karnataka, involving around Rs 35 crore of investment.
“We are eying a turnover of Rs 1,500 crore by March 2021 where we hope the online sales and smart devices to contribute Rs 200 crore each,” said Balu Chowdary.
