Amitabh Taneja, chairman of the Shopping Centers Association of India, said that people have started coming to the mall again. Footfall has reached 60 percent before the corona.

New Delhi: Under Unlock 1.0, malls are open again from June 8 across the country. Since then, the number of people coming in more has doubled. In many malls, up to 60 percent of the pre-Kovid people have started coming. Mall operators say that by November this figure could reach 80 per cent.

There are several reasons for this expectation from mall operators. These include the arrival of the festive season, the end of weekend lockdowns in the states and opening of multiplexes from next month.

Amitabh Taneja, chairman of the Shopping Centers Association of India, said that people have started coming to the mall again. Footfall has reached 60 percent before the corona. There is a demand for all products including fashion and electronic. Demand is expected to increase in the upcoming festive and wedding season.

Dip Saigal, CEO of Nexus Malls, said that under unlock 1.0, three malls in Chandigarh, Amritsar and Ahmedabad have been opened from June 8. Now, double digit growth is being recorded in sales and footfall on a weekly basis.

Sehgal said, “Gradually all our nine malls have reopened. Up to 70 percent of sales have returned from normal days. It is a different matter that footfall is about half of what it was before. ”

Mall operators say that they do not expect full recovery in this festive season. But even if it reaches 50-60 percent before Kovid, it is enough. Especially given that Corona cases are still increasing.

President of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India (CREDAI), NCR, Pankaj Bajaj says that the cases of Corona continue to grow. In such a situation, the probability of footfall reaching the pre-Kovid level is low.

Luxury, beauty and electronics are some of the categories in which good growth has been recorded. The fashion category has also started gaining momentum. Operators believe that this category can do well from October.

Ravinder Chaudhary, AVP, Vegas Mall, Dwarka, Delhi said, “Looking at the current trends and the upcoming festive season, we are confident that the number of people coming to the mall will increase.” We are expected to reach 70 percent of consumption in the festive season. ”
