Mumbai AC Local Trains: Good news for Mumbaikars. Central Railway will start operating 14 new AC local trains from 16th. After this, the number of local AC trains of Central Railway will increase to 21. These trains will make a total of 80 trips. This will provide great relief to Mumbaikars.
After Mumbaikars showed good interest towards AC local trains, Central Railway has decided to run 14 more air-conditioned trains. These trains will be started operating by Central Railway from 16th April. In such a situation, the total number of AC local trains of Central Railway will increase to 21. Till now only seven trains are in operation. With the running of these trains, the journey of passengers will become more comfortable.
Morning & Afternoon Timings – Up Direction
Trains running towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) from other stations will now include more AC services. Here’s a look at the updated schedule:
- Kalyan to CSMT: Leaves at 7.34 am, arrives at 9.05 am
- Badlapur to CSMT: Leaves at 10.42 am, arrives at 12.12 pm
- Thane to CSMT: Four services at 1.28 pm, 3.36 pm, 5.41 pm and 7.49 pm, reaching CSMT at 2.25 pm, 4.34 pm, 6.40 pm and 8.48 pm respectively
- Badlapur to Thane: Late-night service leaves at 11.04 pm, reaches 11.59 pm
- Thane to Vidyavihar: Departs at 12 midnight, arrives at 12.23 am
Heading Back – Down Direction
For those heading away from the city centre, CR has also announced several AC services:
- Vidyavihar to Kalyan: Leaves at 6.26 am, arrives at 7.25 am
- CSMT to Badlapur: Leaves at 9.09 am, reaches 10.32 am
- CSMT to Thane: Four trains leave at 12.24 pm, 2.29 pm, 4.38 pm, and 6.45 pm, arriving at 1.20 pm, 3.25 pm, 5.35 pm, and 7.42 pm
- CSMT to Badlapur: Final AC service departs at 9.08 pm, reaching 10.56 pm
Swapnil Nila added that these new services will run from Monday to Saturday, while non-AC trains will operate on Sundays and public holidays as per the usual schedule.
AC trains make 66 trips
Currently, seven AC local trains of Central Railway make a total of 66 trips in a day. According to Central Railway, new AC local trains will run in pairs on CSMT-Thane/Kalyan/Badlapur route. There will be seven trains each in up and down directions. There will be one each during the morning and evening peak hours, while the remaining 12 services will be operated outside peak hours. These new AC local trains will replace the old local trains. After the arrival of 14 new AC locals, the total number of trips will reach 80. If we talk about fares, there is not much difference in the fares of non-AC and AC locals. The fare from CSMT to Kalyan Badlapur is Rs 100 for non-AC and Rs 105 for AC. Similarly, this fare of Kalyan is Rs 105 and Rs 120. Western Railway charges Rs 100 for traveling from Churchgate to Virar by non-AC and Rs 115 for AC.
Passengers are increasing continuously
According to Central Railway, the number of daily passengers traveling in AC local has increased steadily. In 2024-25, we earned about Rs 215 crore from AC local trains. A total of 46.5 million passengers used. The popularity of AC trains on the Central and Western suburban railway lines is increasing. In the last three years, the Central Railway saw a 73% increase in the number of passengers using AC trains in the month of March, while the Western Railway saw a 67% increase in the same period.
