New Delhi:Â Budget carrier SpiceJet will shift its entire Mumbai operations to Terminal 2 of the city’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport from 1 October 2019, the airline said. The airline said that the transition is being implemented in a bid to enhance passenger convenience. “A single terminal operation would not just help the airline substantially cut down its costs, but provide our passengers with a seamless and smooth travel experience as they transit between domestic and international flights at one of the country’s busiest airports,” stated SpiceJet in an official statement.
The transition is being planned and implemented by the airline with the active support of Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL).
In Delhi too, SpiceJet and IndiGo airlines would shift their flight operations to T3 terminal from 5 September due to expansion works at T2. GoAir will continue its domestic operations from T2 terminal.
“SpiceJet to shift its operation from T2 to T3 entirely; while IndiGo to partially move its operation from T2 to T3…This will result in the passenger load at T2 to reduce by 27 per cent,” Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which operates the Delhi airport, said in a press release.
At present, GoAir fully and SpiceJet and IndiGo partially operate their domestic flights from T2 terminal. Air India, Vistara and Air Asia India operate completely out of T3 terminal.
Commenting on the shift of SpiceJet’s operations from T2 to T3 in Delhi, chairman and managing director Ajay Singh said, “I am pleased to share that from 5 September 2019, SpiceJet will consolidate its operations at Delhi airport by shifting entirely from Terminal 2 to Terminal 3.””With this, our flight operations would be restricted to just two terminals – T 1 and T3 – of the Delhi airport. This move will enhance convenience of passengers travelling with us and provide them greater comfort and ease in transiting between domestic and international flights,” he added.
Meanwhile, SpiceJet will launch 12 new domestic flights effective from the first week of October 2019. The latest flight additions comes after a massive domestic sector expansion by the airline. Starting from 1 April, SpiceJet has announced 142 new flights which include 78 connecting Mumbai, 30 connecting Delhi and 12 flights between Mumbai and Delhi.
