Commercial run of Phase 2 of Mumbai Metro Lines 2 A and 7 began on January 20 and by the second day, the combined ridership on both lines had already crossed the 1 lakh mark.

Mumbai: In only two days since their inauguration, Phase -2 of Line 2A and 7 of the Mumbai metro have already recorded a combined ridership of more the 1 lakh. Both lines have crossed the passenger footfall of 1.25 lakhs, the Maha Mumbai Operation Corporation Limited (MMOCL) said in a Tweet.

These much-awaited Mumbai metro lines were recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 19 and the commercial run on the lines began on January 20. These lines pass through some of Mumbai’s busiest areas between Dahisar and Andheri on the east and west sides.

The operationalisation of these lines is expected to cut down vehicular traffic by 25 per cent. It will ease traffic on New Link Road and between Dahisar East and DN Nagar. Along with that, these new lines are also expected to share the burden of suburban local train services.
Additionally, the elevated Metro lines passing from Link Road and Western Express Highway (WEH), both of which are key roads in Mumbai, are expected to turn into a vital mode of public transportation.
Moreover, the interchange facility at Gundavali station that connects Metro line 7 to Metro line 1 through a FOB (foot over bridge) is also a big hit among commuters who do not have to brave traffic anymore to change metro lines.

Tickets for both the new lines will be priced from Rs 10 to Rs 50. The prices are fixed purely on the basis of distance.

  • For 0-3 km – Rs 10
  • For 3-12 km – Rs 20
  • For 12-18 km – Rs 30
  • For 18-24 km – Rs 40
  • For 24-30 km – Rs 50

A route map for metro lines 2A and 7 was shared by Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.
