NEET UG Counselling Postponed: Amidst controversies, NEET-UG counselling has been postponed till further notice. Official sources have confirmed this to news agency ANI. It is worth noting that the National Testing Agency (NTA) had released the new result of NEET (UG) 2024. A total of 813 students had re-appeared for the exam on June 23. No one could score 720/720. This brought down the toppers tally from 67 to 61. The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts NEET-UG for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions.

Several cases were filed in the courts regarding the rigging of the NEET UG exam. The Union Education Ministry and the NTA have filed separate affidavits opposing the petitions seeking cancellation and re-examination of the exam. The Center and the National Examination Agency (NTA) told the Supreme Court on Friday that cancelling it would be extremely adverse and would be very harmful to the wider public interest, especially to the career prospects of those who pass it.

NEET UG Counselling Postponed: Central Government said- ‘It would not be logical to cancel the declared results’
In an affidavit to the Supreme Court, the government has said that the country’s premier investigating agency CBI has taken over the cases registered in various states. In its preliminary affidavit filed by a director of the Ministry of Education, the Center said, “It is also argued that in the absence of any evidence of large-scale breach of confidentiality in the All India Examination, it would not be logical to cancel the entire examination and the results already declared.”

The central government’s affidavit said, ‘Cancelling the exam completely will cause serious harm to lakhs of honest candidates appearing for the exam in 2024. The Supreme Court will hear various related petitions on July 8. The NEET UG exam was conducted on May 5 this year, in which about 23 lakh candidates appeared at 4,750 examination centers in 571 cities. Allegations of irregularities including question paper leak led to protests in many cities and opposition parties raised the issue.
