Kathmandu, Pratr. The parliamentary panel of Nepal has proposed to amend the Citizenship Act of the country. Actually, to get married to a person of Nepal origin, the woman of another country will have to wait for one or two full seven years to get citizenship here. The move has been criticized by Nepal’s main opposition parties. They say that this will trouble the people living in Madhesh because marriages across the border are valid there.
The Nepali Congress (Nepali Congress, NC) and Janata Samajwadi Party (Janata Samajbadi Party, SJP) have said that such provisions can also affect Nepal’s relations with India from where long livelihood and marriage relations are prolonged Are from Until four or five years ago, 40 to 50 processions from India generally went to Nepal. These are the same figures for the processions going from India to Nepal. But in recent years the number of processions from Nepal has reduced by more than half compared to earlier.Â

It is noteworthy that the ruling Communist Party of Nepal has passed a majority of the parliamentary committee on Sunday, advancing the law’s decision to grant citizenship to Indian married women after 7 years of marriage. Rejecting all the arguments and protests of Nepal’s opposition parties, the ruling party has pushed forward the process of enacting controversial citizenship laws. However, protests against this law have started in Nepal. Two MPs from Madhesh region have also opposed the government’s decision. Despite this, the Oli government of Nepal is preparing to get it passed by parliament in the next two days.Â
