Kathmandu, ANI. Nepal, which published a new map showing some areas of India as its own, has retraced its steps on this issue. According to the news agency ANI, the Constitution of Nepal was to be amended to update the map of the country for which the proposal was to be tabled in Parliament on Wednesday and the discussion was scheduled but now it has been taken out of schedule. It is said that the Government of Nepal removed the proceedings of the Constitution amendment from the agenda of Parliament on this occasion.
Today was the day scheduled for holding discussions in Parliament for amendments to the House of Representatives of Nepal. But the report said that the country’s political parties decided to form a national consensus on this issue. Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli called an all-party meeting on Tuesday to form a national consensus on the new map issue, but political parties could not form an opinion on the issue. Be aware that any constitutional amendment in Nepal requires a two-thirds majority.
It is said that the leaders of Madheshi parties are pressurizing the government to get their demands. A senior leader of the Janata Samajbadi Party said that we also want our long pending demands to be taken care of but no satisfactory response has been received so far. Instead, PM Oli has called it an issue purely related to the national sentiment of the people. The Nepali Congress has said that the issue of constitutional amendment for a new map needs to be discussed in the party. It is known that the Nepali Congress is also supporting the government’s move.

It is worth mentioning that the Government of Nepal had released a new map of its country in the past, in which it had declared a total of 395 square kilometers of Indian territory in Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura. The Government of Nepal had announced that this map will now be used in all schools and government offices in the country. On behalf of Nepal’s Ministry of Land Management and Reform, Minister Padma Ariyal said on the occasion that the new map would be placed before the Parliament to approve the amendments made in it.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs reacted strongly to Nepal’s respect for India’s sovereignty when the new terrain was shown in the said new map. Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava had said that we request the Government of Nepal to refrain from publishing such artificial cartographic and respect the unity integrity of India. The Government of Nepal is fully aware of India’s position in this matter. India also said that the Nepal government should reconsider its decision.
The new road from Dharchula to Lipulekh was inaugurated by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh of India in the past. Nepal objected to this. Even Nepal summoned Indian Ambassador Vinay Mohan Quatra. In response, India bluntly said that the newly constructed road in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand is completely in the territory of India. Now, in Nepal, there is no consensus among political parties on the issue of new maps, the deadlock seems to be cooling down. However, India will continue its diplomatic initiative on this issue.
