RBI said in a statement that the design of these new notes will be similar to the ₹ 10 and ₹ 500 notes of the already issued Mahatma Gandhi (New) series. That is, no change has been made in the design or security feature, except that they will now bear the signature of new governor Sanjay Malhotra.
New notes of 10 and 500 rupees will be issued
RBI has clarified that all the ₹ 10 and ₹ 500 notes issued earlier will remain legal tender. That is, the old notes will remain in circulation and the general public does not need to worry about anything.
Before this, 100, 200 notes have been issued
Let us tell you that last month also RBI had announced the issuance of ₹ 100 and ₹ 200 denomination notes, which were signed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
Malhotra became RBI Governor in place of Shaktikanta Das
Sanjay Malhotra took over as RBI Governor in December 2024. He replaced Shaktikanta Das, whose term was completed after the extension.
