Under the new education policy, the Higher Education Commission for Higher Education (HECI) will be formed, except medical and law studies. HECI will have four independent organs – the National Higher Education Regulatory Council (NHERC), the General Education Council (GEC) for standard determination, the Higher Education Grants Council for funding (HEGC) and the National Accreditation Council for Accreditation (NAC).
Till now there were UGC, AICTE, ACTE. The rules of HECI will be applicable in all government and private educational institutions. Scientific and social research will be promoted by creating National Research Foundation.
National Institute of Translation and Interpretation will be formed
The new policy lays emphasis on the preservation and development of all Indian languages. Under this, the Indian Translation and Interpretation Institute (IITI) will be established for Pali, Persian and Prakrit languages. It is recommended to strengthen Sanskrit and language departments in higher educational institutions.
For online education, content will be prepared in regional languages, virtual lab and digital library will be created. All the entrance and competitive examinations will be conducted by the National Testing Agency. Emphasis will be on computer based examination. Emphasis on providing courses in classical languages including Indian. The government will help financially if Sanskrit is taught.
The authority for
schooling in the states shall be a clear system of regulation, conduct and academic affairs of schooling. Under this, independent State School Standards Authority (SSSA) will be formed in the states and union territories.
